People Who Don’t Text and Drive Don’t Need Auto Collision Repair as Often

The downside of being a collision repair shop in Tulsa, OK, is that we see people at one of their lowest moments—after an auto accident. The saddest auto collisions are the ones that could have been prevented because they were clearly caused by texting while driving.

Everyone thinks they’re good at texting and driving. Those other crazies out there can’t do it; they’re weaving in their lanes, slowing down, speeding up, but we all think we’re good at it. Science says otherwise.

And it’s not just the fact that the continuous increase in traffic fatalities over the past 10 years has been connected to the use of electronic devices while driving. It’s a recent brain study conducted by the American Automobile Association that proves we really can’t do other things while we’re driving.

The study monitored the brain functions of drivers operating multiple vehicle types and found that the human brain is unable to fully control a car while also controlling an electronic device. Voice control made little difference compared to manual keyboard operation.

The bottom line is that, if you’re a human with a human brain, you really, really can’t multitask behind the wheel. You’re just not wired for it, and the study proves it.

Here’s hoping you keep both hands on the wheel, both eyes on the road and a focused mind on your driving. We love helping people with auto collision repair, but not when it’s an avoidable accident.
